Revlon at New York Fashion Week 2013

By Laura Medina

In fashion, in food, and in cosmetics, this scribe covers it from high to low but the quality still has to be there.

This time, it is Revlon doing Rag & Bone Fall 2013 collection.  Revlon Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman described the look for Rag & Bone as, "soft and feminine makeup look" to match the collection's the masculine designs of rag & bone’s Fall 2013 collection.

“I wanted to create a look that was super girly and contrasted with the masculine feel of the collection,” says Westman.  “The focus of this look is definitely the eyeliner.  I added a bit of a modern twist to a classic 60’s look by using a gel liner across the top of the lid.  I kept the rest of the look simple and paired it with natural and luminous skin.  I love how the whole look is a bit retro, but still fresh.”

One thing that is great about a high-end mass-available makeup line, such as Revlon, is that obviously it is open to anyone anywhere at most time.

Still, like any makeup line, high or low, New York Fashion Week is the time to debut the new stuff that will arrive soon in two to one month from now, or we'll just to wait another six months to get our hands on them.

The new stuff from Revlon that was launched on the catwalk were:  Revlon ColorStay 16H Eyeshadow Quad in Free Spirit from The Spring/Summer ’13 Collection by Gucci Westman, $7.49 (available April 2013).  Revlon PhotoReady Primer and Shadow in Muse from The Fall ’13 Collection by Gucci Westman, $9.99 (available October 2013) and Revlon PhotoReady Kajal Intense Eyeliner + Brightener in Blue Nile, $8.99 (available June 2013).

This scribe-on-the-go loves that Revlon is finally jumping on board with the colored multiple stick that was invented and long-dominated by the higher-end NARS, Baby Sticks for Lips & Cheeks in Pink Passion from The Spring/Summer ’13 Collection by Gucci Westman, $8.99 (available April 2013)This is the blush she used on the Rag and Bone models.  For KaufmanFranco, she used Revlon Baby Stick for Lips & Cheeks in Tahitian from The Spring/Summer ’13 Collection by Gucci Westman, $8.99 (available April 2013) as blush.

In configuring the makeup for KaufmanFranco's look, Gucci Westman paired it with  bold smoky eyes with luminous skin to complement KaufmanFranco’s Fall ’13 collection.  Inspired by Brigitte Bardot, and classic Parisian women from the 60’s, Gucci said it is all about the eyes, “I combined smoky grey shadows with ultra heavy black liner and piled on extra lashes for a mysterious and sultry look.  To contrast with the gritty texture on the eyes, I kept the girls skin soft and pretty and gave their lips a natural flush.”

Gucci Westman described the muse for Lisa Perry's Autumn/Winter 2013 as a modern take on the popular mod look of the 60’s, to complement the bright and vibrant designs of the designer’s Fall ’13 collection.

“I wanted to create a look that complimented Lisa’s clothing, something playful with strong references to the 1960’s,” says Westman. “I focused on the eyes and went for something retro.  To make it a bit more contemporary and modern I opted for bright colored liners in blues and purples, rather than black and added shadow on top for an extra pop.  I kept the skin simple and natural and created subtle freckles on the nose with a nude pencil.”

Matte and freckled?! Now, that's something new!
