Be a Boss, Treat Your Mom & Dad like a Queen & King for Mother's & Father's Days at Vertigo Salon, Wise Investment with Timothy Oulton's Noble Souls Furniture, While Beasting with The Best at LA Zoo's Beastly Ball.

By Laura Medina

You all got three choices to celebrate and honor and treat both mom and dad, busting the neck ties and flower bouquet rut.

First up, ladies first.  Of course, mom comes first which is why Mother's Day is up first.

You can treat both mom and dad by treating them at Vertigo Nail Salon and Bar,

At the humungous Vertigo Salon, they took the concept of nail salon then bump it up into stratosphere.  The nail bar is really a bar...with three flat screen tv in all three directions for everyone, manicuring or/and pedicuring anywhere.

Since there's an upscale car dealership next door, Vertigo Nail Salon, serves cranberry juice and whiskey and a bunch of varieties of mimosas, champagne and fruit juice cocktails: mango, pineapple, and orange juice and don't forget bubbly rose.

The Nail Bar is spacious enough that you can enjoy your cocktail while getting a real classy manicure, while watching tv.

You can still enjoy your cocktail while getting your expert, top-notch pedicure at a professional foot bath, while your mom and dad sit in a throne.

You can throw bashes and parties and do promotional events or just a Mother's Day and Father's Day feast at Vertigo Nail Salon, since the Nail Bar is also a bar and don't forget the tv sets, while you're spoiling your parents or girlfriends or boyfriends.

Vertigo Nail Salon is so spacious, that they can do hair, safely, around the perimeters and...

there's a separate room for facials and waxing.

Vertigo Nail Salon can do parties while y'all get freshly glammed up,

If your parents are more social butterflies, once you got them all cleaned up and dolled up, take them to a worthy cause and have them party with party animals at L.A. Zoo's fundraiser, The Beastly Ball,

Do you know the LA Zoo's very own catering does some amazing gourmet snacks, such as these duck bao buns.

Los Angeles' best local restaurants also showcase their best nibbles, such 1933 Group's Smoked Pecan Cajun Wings with Petite Macaroons.

As a fundraiser, the LA Zoo will gladly gift you portion-controlled wine with recyclable glass bottles by Taste It Wines,

Don't forget, you're fundraising a zoo.  You'll be partying with real people-friendly party animals, like elephants and anteaters and a parrot..

There are even stiltwalkers and acrobats and contortionists to stand-in for animals who can't socialize but need the help.

If your mom yearns something more practical and durable and family-friendly, buy something that Dad and the kids and mom can enjoy, the cool and comfortable, Noble Soul Furniture Collection by Timothy Oulton,

For such a luxurious, high-quality furniture, it ages so well that it can take it, whether feet up Games of Thrones or NFL or NBA or World Cup while still cool and refreshing, as in the down-feather stuffed sofa and pillows radiates the heat away from your head, cooling and relaxing, bringing the whole family together.

The coffee table is recycled oak floor boards rebuilt into a sturdy coffee table that can dance on.

The whole collection is canvas and denim dyed in real Chinese Indigo, again it's denim that we all live in.  Plus, if you and the kids spill grape juice, grape soda, coffee, tea, and coke, that stain only improves the patina. No freaking out.

The reclaimed wood tables and dining chairs are kid-friendly, clumsy-friendly, and good for the earth.  Just because it's reclaimed and repurposed wood, doesn't mean it can't be chic, classy, and elegant.  With thrift store porcelain china you should inherit, you can have instant shabby causal chic,

You can get the kids to help you rearrange furniture by making it into a game where they can shuffle and stack these multiple-purpose stacking table/chairs/stools anywhere and any way how.

This is how you make mom and dad posh and special then yourself.  Get Timothy Oulton's furniture as heirlooms for your own nest.

Government Day, Protecting Hollywood From Eating Its Young, Keeping Hollywood Affordable and Viable for Fresh Talent with Evolve Entertainment Fund & Housing Rights Summit.

By Laura Medina

Hollywood, desperate to keep itself relevant in an ever-changing society, has been known for eating its young-chew them out then spit them out-while being known for nepotism, trying to retain the ranks with lackluster relatives in the business.

Los Angeles, the City of Angels, is trying to remedy that.

Mayor Eric Garcetti promoted and endorsing a film internship open to real Angelenos who have no family ties to the film business but have the drive and the interest to do it.

This is where Mayor Eric Garcetti puts his mayoral power to good use...

Teaming up with authentic real-life Angelenos established in film and tv, these established industry veterans are paying it forward to the next generation of Angelenos to better represent society through film and tv.

Mayor Eric Garcetti today joined filmmaker Ava DuVernay and producer Dan Lin to launch the Evolve Entertainment Fund (EEF), a public-private partnership aimed at creating new opportunities for communities that have been historically excluded from the entertainment industry.

The Evolve fund is an alliance between the City of Los Angeles, industry leaders in entertainment and digital media, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions. It is dedicated to building career pathways into film, television, and music for women, people of color, and low-income Angelenos through paid internships, focused mentoring, and an ongoing series of workshops and panels.

The EEF has already secured 150 paid summer internships for students participating in the HIRE LA’s Youth program — partnering with leading entertainment and digital media organizations that include DreamWorks Animation, Ryan Murphy Television, Film Independent, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Kobe Bryant’s Granity Studios, and Anonymous Content. That number is expected to grow to 250 by the end of 2018, with a goal of 500 placements by 2020.
It will also promote the work of underrepresented filmmakers, storytellers, and creatives — by providing mini-grants to existing non-profits that pair underserved young people with top-level mentors and internships — and deliver production gap financing to qualifying film, television, and new media projects.

By giving these young and future film makers and tv show runners a chance to tell their stories to relate to many other people, like themselves, in LA and beyond, Hollywood would not be eating then spitting out their young.

“When ‘Oscars So White’ and ‘Time’s Up’ put a spotlight on inequality in Hollywood, they captured the frustrations of people shut out of opportunity in what the world knows as L.A.’s signature industry,” said Mayor Garcetti. “We created the Evolve Entertainment Fund to give people in underserved communities a new opportunity to chase their dreams in Hollywood — whether they want to be the next award-winning director or screenwriter, or are looking to secure a future in below-the-line jobs that are the bedrock of this city’s middle class.”

“As we radically reimagine Hollywood, it is critically important that young people are included in our vision," said Ava DuVernay, founder of Array Entertainment and EEF Co-Chair. “Real change happens when we take tangible action — and that means giving young women and people of color opportunities in the industry early on, so they have the chance to shape its future. ARRAY is proud to be working with Mayor Garcetti on the Evolve Entertainment Fund, and we look forward to our collaboration on this effort.”

To develop a stronger pathway to careers in the entertainment industry, the first cohort of students will be heavily drawn from Los Angeles community colleges and LAUSD high schools. EEF will also recruit students from low-income communities who are attending four-year colleges to ensure the program reaches a broad array of young people.

“Rideback is proud to join Mayor Garcetti and EEF to increase diversity in the entertainment industry,” said Dan Lin, CEO of Rideback and an EEF Advisory Committee member, whose company has established a new summer fellowship that will give young people up-close exposure to the process of developing film and television content for a global audience. “A more diverse mix of people and stories is essential for the future of our industry. We look forward to working alongside our colleagues to make EEF flourish and to launching new opportunities for young people of all backgrounds to join our industry.”

The first EEF grant recipient is the Women in Entertainment (WIE) Mentorship Program backed by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and the Hollywood Reporter. WIE selects teenage girls from low-income communities to work directly with some of the most influential professionals in entertainment, along with college prep support, scholarships, and paid summer internships.

“Our work with Mayor Garcetti and HIRE LA’s Youth has been rewarding as we continue to create creative pathways for underrepresented youth in Hollywood,” said Ryan Murphy, who serves on the Advisory board of the EEF. “Mayor Garcetti asked my company for support and we immediately introduced internships through our Half Initiative with Hire LA’s Youth and have employed directly from the program.

The EEF will also provide students with educational opportunities — including programs presented by Sundance Institute, site visits at Netflix, and panel discussions hosted by Issa Rae Productions. Mayor Garcetti’s office will also partner with the Center for a Competitive Workforce to help retool the region’s community college courses and programs to prepare Angelenos for a new entertainment landscape driven by digitalization.

“Getting students to and through college and ultimately into quality, high-paying jobs is about so much more than test scores and GPA,” said Saskia Pallais, Regional Executive Director of College Track – Los Angeles, an EEF partner. “With the establishment of this new fund, the City of Los Angeles will provide game-changing opportunities for chronically underrepresented students to grow both personally and professionally, while at the same time taking tangible steps to fill the diversity pipeline into the entertainment industry.”

Once these young, up n' coming film makers get their feet wet in the "industry," they need a place to stay and live to grow roots.
Can't grow roots if tenants are evicted every three to five years to increase rent.
This is why the Housing Rights Center did a summit to tell how housing affects civil rights, discrimination and environmental health.

Even the actress, Eva Longeria, discussed about environmental racism, where poor people of color, are forced to live in toxic areas due to the price, at the Teen Vogue Summit.
Yes, it looks and sounds dry as toast but the unfortunate real trend is the mass exodus of young Californians moving out to greener and cheaper pastures.
When real estate flipping becomes violent, harassment, and threats, this is where housing becomes criminal.
Evicting before getting your feet wet, much less established.
This the instance of LA chewing then spitting their young.
To be hip is to be relevant, this means giving a helping hand to those injecting fresh blood, talent, and ideas into the local economy to keep it vital.

Better than Hard Boiled Eggs, eos hand lotions & lip balms and Goutal Perfumes for Easter.

By Laura Medina

Instead of childish cheap chocolates and spoiled rotten eggs that you forgot, how about something and stuff you can use, whether it be traditional Easter or "adult" Easter, the second and last end of Coachella.

Out in the desert or just running about, everyone can use a good lip balm and a lip scrub to smooth out your lips.

eos' Tropical Escape's  Piña Colada flavor combines fresh pineapple indulgent coconut cream and a hint of lime. It’s a sophisticated kind of trip for your lips. Their Guava Sugar Lip Scrub gently exfoliates with natural sugar and coconut shell for a buff-yum-soft sort of experience. The taste of ripe guava and raw sugar will have you licking your lips, too.

eos' Tropical Escape Trio Hand Lotions are easy to pack in your Easter basket.

Their Beach Mango fragrance contains notes of juicy mango, tropical citrus and exotic fruit cocktail that smells like a little slice of paradise. The formula leaves skin velvety smooth and softly scented with uber hydrating ingredients like aloe, avocado oil, and shea butter. The Delicate Petals and Vanilla Orchid fragrances pack notes of wild honeysuckle, alluring jasmine, warm vanilla and powdery musk for scents that are as soft as an island breeze. They're palm-sized beauties on-the-go.

At affordable prices, you can give them out as better alternatives to chocolate and rotten eggs.

These Goutal Perfumes can roll over onto Mother's Day if y'all have outgrown Easter.

Mom or you will find Goutal Rose Pompon very adorable with it's deep rosy tinted fragrance of:
Bulgarian Rose Essence, Taïf Rose, Peony, Blackcurrent, Raspberry, Pink Pepper, Woody Cedar, Patchouli, White Musks

Eau d' Hadrien can do double-duty for both dad and mom with its citrus and spicy combination of : Sicilian Lemon, Citron, Grapefruit, Green Mandarin, Ylang-Ylang, Cypress, Bergamo

Petite Cherie is a classic and elegant version of a candy perfume of Pear, Peach, Musky Rose, Freshly Cut Grass, Vanilla, like a classic Italian nougat or jelly candy.

Now, these are stuff that can double-duty your Easter Basket into a Mother's Day gift that you want for yourself.

Coachella-ing at NYLON Magazine's Midnight Garden, Lucky Brand x Rolling Stone's Desert Jam and Luxury Experience & Co Gifting Lounge.

By Laura Medina

Coachella, the music festival has become another form of Spring Break and a Maypole celebration for Young Urban Professionals, that desirable demographic and psychographic.

NYLON Magazine threw a bash celebrating anything Coachella.  It opened as soon as the music festival ends for the night, very convenient for festival attendees.

Evan Ross and Ashley Simpson and Lisa Rinna enjoy the refreshments supporting Coachella's environmentally and healthy ethos in low-calorie, all-natural sodas and coconut water and Ketel One Botanical cocktails.

Since the older Millennials are now the target yuppies, JoJo doing a concert in #booksmartthemovie tent was tween/teen throwback for them.

NYLON, the leading international curator of fashion, beauty, music and pop culture content for today’s millennial woman, along with sponsors, including: Annapurna Pictures, the production studio founded in 2011 that creates sophisticated, high-quality content; CANN, the first cannabis-infused social tonic; Ketel One Botanicals, the super-premium vodka brand rooted in authenticity, honoring tradition and sophisticated taste; Lyft, the transportation network company providing ride-hailing services; ShoeDazzle, a premier American online fashion subscription service; and Uninterrupted, the all-digital sports programming network founded by LeBron James & Maverick Carter.

Friday, April 12, NYLON Media will host its fourth annual star-studded Midnight Garden Party at The NYLON Estate, a secret location {TBA}. The event will feature live, electrifying performances that will be remembered from Coachella 2019. NYLON is teaming up with Warner Brother Records who is bringing beloved singer/songwriter, JoJo, to the stage, along with other surprise guests. The party will also feature high-energy DJ sets by Erika Jayne, star of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Johnny Wujek, the celebrity stylist behind Katy Perry’s vibrant wardrobe, Markus Molinari, renowned DJ and jewelry designer and Pookie, one of Serbia’s most recognized and talented DJ’s who will be closing the night.

Annapurna Pictures will be incorporating experiential elements throughout the estate inspired by its new movie, BookSmart- premiering this May. The film will serve as Olivia Wilde's first debut as a director, starring Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever.

CANN will be providing all-natural, refreshing CBD x THC Soda, as well as a dedicated bar on-site where brand ambassadors will educate guests on their products.

Harmless Harvest will provide refreshing coconut water.

Ketel One Botanicals will supply a custom bar with delicious, specialty cocktails and a flower crown station and Lyft will be offering discount codes for attendees along with transportation via branded Lyft buses.

Throughout the night, ShoeDazzle will showcase its new and wildly popular Erika Jayne x ShoeDazzle line while Erika Jayne brings the beats and excites the crowd

Ashley Brinton, singer, was making the rounds at NYLON's Midnight Garden then Lucky Brand x Rolling Stone's Desert Jam.  She performed at the Riviera on Friday and Saturday nights for their Palm Springs Fashion Week.

Guests will also experience Uninterrupted’s Instagrammable art installation on the tennis courts at The Estate which will feature projection mapping curated by Naomi Osaka, Japanese professional tennis player who recently defeated Serena Williams at the US Open Final.

Friday night rolled straight into Saturday afternoon with Lucky Brand's annual Desert Jam, kindly helped out with Rolling Stone Magazine and Jeep.

Since Coachella's best parties are spacious and remote and the cheapest motels and AirBnBs are just as remote, you need a Jeep to go off-roading to those exclusive events and experiences then return you home to your cool and remote lodgings.

Jeep's newest models were out and full-frontal...

Lucky Brand's Desert Jam, with Rolling Stone Magazine was like a mini Coachella concert , poolside.

Rolling Stone's selects the freshest acts and their idea of established band is still everybody else's idea of a newbie.

They saved the best for the last, X Ambassadors.

This scribe first covered and profiled them for Made In America Festival,, when they were just bursting upon the music scene.

Now, they're headlining Lucky Brand x Rolling Stone's Desert Jam.  Soon after, just like everybody else,  the X Ambassadors were dying to take off and catch the real Coachella Festival.

The even fresher Palm Springsteen, Gen-Y version of the Pixies, warmed up the floating, poolside audience, with cow bells...

Becoming what is now a Lucky Brand Desert Jam tradition, all the young newbies diving straight into the pool, from the stage, after rocking under the blazing desert sun.  Fresh blood, fresh talent and thirsty for the pool, as they are hungry and just as grateful to rock poolside.

Drax Project may be the first to hit the stage at 12 noon but they got popular tracks going on,  "Woke Up Late" starring  Hailee Steinfeld (Official Music Video) and Liza Koshy.

Lucky guests, metaphorically and literally, chowed on Bacon Wrapped LA Hot Dogs, sip Jack Daniels whiskey cocktails...

Guzzled in Pomegranate Blue Acai and Peach Mango, floating away in the pool, listening to the live bands rocking.
Doing and covering these amazing Coachella-related parties and suites are a great to discover what you need, new product launches, and realizing what you forgot to pack in your get-away tote bag.

There are a many tanning lotions with zero benefits but duh, Coppertone came along with a tanning lotion with benefits, that makes sense...

Coppertone® Glow Sunscreen Lotion with Shimmer, more subtle rose glow shimmer than baked cocoa.  This tanning lotion is packed with SPF 15, 30, and 50.  This scribe used on the face, neck, and chest.  Better face and body makeup.
Speaking for forgetting to pack or not knowing what to pack, thank god for West Elm's Luxury Experience & Co Gifting Lounge.  William-Sonoma's answer to Crate & Barrel and CB2, their LE & Co. Gifting Lounge was an oasis after getting off the long, dusty, and hot drive to the desert.  High Beauty's Cannabis Facial Oil and Moisturizer came in handy when you're complexion is dry and dustry.  Relief.

It's not a headband.  It's Nicole Rose Headphones for girl DJs.  More than a band of roses, these headphones are specifically constructed to the female's ear lobes, ear canal, and drum.
Knowing you're hitting the Coachella party circuit, with two or three more events to go to, and that's not even the festival itself, you need something fun to guzzle and hydrate.
Martinellis' Sparkling Blush, the bubbly apple cider tinted and sweetened with raspberry, is something you need to keep hydrated.
