Breaking Ice Breaks Thru Modern China’s Millennials.

“Breaking Ice” is modern China’s Millennial existential movie.

It shows you not all Chinese are monolithic stereotypes and different regions represents different Chinese, thru job opportunities and fashion.

It also proves not all Asians are monolithic.

The Chinese border on North Korea, is China’s Wyoming, Communist Industrial zone that’s still remote frontier for other Chinese, gawking at North Koreans in North Korean theme amusement park towns.

A Singapore, China’s Manhattan, stockbroker hides out from the urban grind and his disappointed mom, while the rustic, rural folks admire and wish to steal his classic, cashmere navy blue overcoat.

This is where a failed figure skater turned local tour guide and her high school drop-out, clad in plaid flannel, team up with this burnt out stockbroker.

Letting loose in China’s idea of a country frontier is what “Breaking Ice” is all about.

Griity in Pink Holiday Party at Peppermint Club

 By Laura Medina

It was a Girl Power Holiday party.

Thrown by Gritty In Pink, their holiday party shone the spotlight on background singers rising and outgrowing their spot.

A Mariah Carey background singer sang her boss’ “All I Want for Christmas.”

She received what she wished. She’s the star.

 By Laura Medina

During West Edge’s Interior Design Fair, former model and now, fashion and decor designer and mom, Erin Fetherson and friends demonstrated the latest in stove tops by whipping up healthy holiday, easy soup, Butternut Soup.

The secret ingredient? An immersion stick blender that whips everything in the pot.

Chop and drop diced butternut squash, onions, garlic, and simmer in vegetable broth, then blend with blender, to dump into mugs and bowls for the whole family or yourself.

Healthy Holiday.

Billy Porter Explains the Difference Between Seriousness and Being Fabulous at LA’s Vulture Culture Festival.

                               By Laura Medina

Before accepting his Honorary Award by New York Magazine’s Vulture Culture Festival, in Hollywood, Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner and Broadway veteran and former R n B singer…and survivor, Billy Porter sat to lecture the fans, the wannabes, and the jealous, the difference between seriousness and being fabulous.

Him being awarded, such as receiving Vulture Culture’s Honorary Award, that’s what he calls being fabulous.

The long, torturous, and twisting road, that still wind, after winning Emmys, Tony, and Grammy, Billy calls this being serious.

He also describes what is drive and ambition. As Carnegie Mellon junior, he used his Spring Break to get on Star Search in 1992.

That’s part of seriousness.

Let’s face it, he loves Broadway and New York.

Seriousness, according to Billy, was putting up playing degrading, humiliated comedic song and dance “coon” roles on Broadway.

He even lied to himself in then straight R n B industry, just to make it as a singer, even though he hated the toxic masculinity and the vixens attracted to it.

He back to stage.

Billy calls that torturous journey, “seriousness.”

Winning a Tony for Kinky Boots, as an openly gay man, that’s fabulous, according to him.

Having Ryan Murphy especially writing a role, based and tailored on me, when Billy auditioned for another role, that’s fabulous.

Him playing Pray Tell on FX’s Pose, won him numerous Emmys, again fabulous.

After being awarded Vulture Culture’s Honorary Award, Billy is still serious, waiting for an Oscar, in order to be a fabulous EGOT: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony winner.

That’s fabulous.

Christmas in the City, Target’s Wonderland Weekend Brought Wonka Wonder.

 By Laura Medina

Target proves that chic and hip can be family friendly, especially among Millennial and Gen-Z families.

As soon as “Wonka” movie opens, Target launches its candy-inspired playground, at LA Live on Friday and Saturday, for all.

Resourcefully, they used and give their own brand of candies as Christmas trick o’ treats. Toy trains dumping cookies. Families twisting knobs for candies.

It was a real life Wonka factory for a mere weekend then it disappears.

As a Christmas Treat, John Cryer’s “ExTended Family” Will Air Pilot on December 23rd With Holiday Sport Spirit.

  By Laura Medina

It’s the norm that parents divorce, move on then remarry.

John Cryer’s new and latest TV series, “ExTended Family” is all about the new norm.

Set in Boston, John plays Jim, a divorced Celtic fan dad whose publicist ex-wife Julia  played by Abigail Spencer, who moved onto being engaged to the Celtics’ owner, Trey, played Donald Faison.

The tween kids, Jimmy Jr. and Gracie,  just have to accept the changes and learn to enjoy the ride.

That’s explanatory premise of the premiere episode that will air on December 23rd.

It opens with Julia and Trey shocking Gracie that they’re engaged.

Now that Gracie is engaged to Celtic’s president, her ex, Jim enjoys the swag in the VIP Lounge at every game while their son, Jimmy Jr. thinks this is cool.

Just in time for Christmas, Trey pulled Jim into being an impromptu therapist for a nervous new Celtics’ recruit, who was planning to be a priest.

Jim better pull a Christmas miracle, if he wants his Christmas wish.

After its December 23rd premiere, John Cryer’s “ExTended Family” will move to its real time slot on Tuesday nights, at 8:30 pm, on NBC.

A new, real family sitcom for today’s family dynamics.

In-N-Out’s Lynsi Snyder Set The World on Fire at In-N-Out’s 75th Anniversary Festival.

 By Laura Medina

As soon as she inherited the family company then named one of America’s youngest American female billionaire when she became In-N-Out’s president, the reclusive former kidnap victim, Lynsi Snyder is stepping out of the shadows and setting her leadership on her own terms.

This Inland Empire California Girl has the money and power to set the new direction for her family company.

Yes, the In-N-Out heiress has her own heavy metal band, .38 Special.

Lynsi is the anti-Paris Hilton. Less sex appeal, more attitude.

She’s bold enough to throw her Coachella, a carnival and festival celebrating her grandparents founding the simply ans speedy of America’s first drive-thru burger stand 75 years ago.

Anti-Beverly Hills and Hollywood, yet so Californian, Lynsi’s In-N-Out 75th Anniversary Festival was a car show and drag racing with a carnival all afternoon.

Of course, an army is In-N-Out food trucks.

There’s an In-N-Out Car Museum. Towards the exit, there’s a rock n’ roll lounge with guitars and photos of Lynsi and her rock singer husband.

This tells you about the concert.

Lynsi’s very own band, .38 Special, opened the three-set concert by her fire-eating.

Yep, she’s a dare devil fire eater, fire dancer, and flaming aerialist.

Her set was a pyrotechnic fire fest.

After swallowing flames, this was a mere warm up to her spinning 35 feet up, mid-air, in a flaming cube swing. She’s an aerialist.

That didn’t end there. The main highlight of this “lit” set was her fire-dancing. More like, her and her fire dancing troupe, sword fighting, ala “Game of Thrones,” with swords on fire. Yes, Lynsi can sword fight with flaming swords.

Things cool down when Lynsi’s band cover Def Leppsrd’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” when Lynsi switched to becoming a video vixen dancer pouring soda (she’s being resourceful) all over herself.

Once rinsed off, she played bass then switched over to be a backup singer towards the end.

Rock stars, who are mere fans followed from there.

311 did the second set.

Then, ZZ Top finished this fierce festival.

They’re In-N-Out fans by the way.

Lynsi Snyder set the world on fire on her own terns.

Added Alex Duda, showrunner and executive producer: “We can’t wait to welcome a vibrant audience to join us in studio. There will be lots of surprises and plenty of giveaways. Brie Larson's Elizabeth Zott is a Feminist in Her Own Cooking Show, Apple TV+'s "Lessons in Chemistry."

 By Laura Medina

Millennials and Zoomers, especially Millennial and Zoomer young ladies best be watching Brie Larson's fifties feminist drama, "Lessons in Chemistry," https://www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2022/08/apple-tv-shares-first-look-at-lessons-in-chemistry-new-drama-series-starring-and-executive-produced-by-academy-award-winner-brie-larson/

Brie Larson plays the series' protagonist Elizabeth Zott, a woman chemist who's just as sharp and brilliant as her male counterparts, but trapped and punished in a white, male, chauvinistic society of the Eisenhower Fifties society.

Talk to your grandmother or great-grandmother about being brave, tough, and smart rising up in a white, male chauvinistic world, that the author of "Lessons in Chemistry" and the tv series' executive producer and lead star, Brie Larson are worried of that society returning.

A woman chemist who was downgraded to a lab technician assistant in a research center, Elizabeth Zott always had it to be a darn good cook through her love for molecular science.

But stuff happens, once she discovered true love with her equal, Elizabeth was found pregnant once her love was accidentally killed.  Remember this is the Fifties, being a single, unwed mom was enough for poor Elizabeth Zott to get fired from her research assistant job.

But,  you all know what they say about silver linings.

Once fired from her lowly lab assistant job, Elizabeth became an unexpected star when hired to host a tv cooking show.  Think of Julia Childs with a ph-level chemist brain.

Soon, Elizabeth is fighting the patriarchy while subversively teaching mollycuddled housewives about chemistry and feminism through cooking.

Watch Brie Larson slay chauvinism and racism in Apple TV +'s "Lessons in Chemistry."

Makeup Meets Coffee Is An Hot Trend With Kindness, Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty Pop-Up Cafe & Polite Society's La La Land Kind Cafe Takeover.

 By Laura Medina

Two days after Polite Society Cosmetics' sweet weekend takeover of La La Kind Cafe on Santa Monica's Montana Ave., Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty did a cafe pop-up in the middle of the Westfield Century City Mall.

When you purchase a mere one item or more from Rare Beauty at Century City Mall's Sephora, they'll give you a sticker to present at Rare Beauty Cafe where you can come in, be gifted with a Rare Beauty backpack then be treated to whatever and how many you like lattes and coffee, iced or hot, with whole milk or oat milk.

It was opened from 12 noon to 3pm.

During those three hours, when staffers notice someone lounging alone, they're more than happy to offer comfort and joy, by giving guests company so no one will feel isolated.

This Tuesday was World Mental Health Day.

This was also the reason for the preceding Polite Society's La La Land Kind Cafe over the weekend.

In the weekend preceding World Mental Health Day, Polite Society Cosmetics are all about skin-kind ingredients.  Therefore, it makes sense a skin-kind makeup company would take over a cafe, that's all about promoting kindness and inclusivity through coffee and snacks.

Polite Society turned La La Land Kind Cafe into a makeup wonderland.

Just for strutting in because you're wondering what's going on, Polite Society automatically gifts you with free full-sized lip gloss and a travel-sized mascara.

Obviously, Polite Society sold the whole line, with rare, limited-edition sweatshirts and a collectible holiday eyeshadow, along with limited edition lattes.

These past days were a makeup dream, promoting kindness and inclusivity.

Holiday-ing in LA? Go to GOODEE, at Culver City's Platform, for Holiday Gifts.

Why not jaunt over to LA's hidden gem, Culver City, "hipster city" of talented young people working at HBO Max and Apple +.

Family Style Festival, Where Fashion Meets Food & Polite Society Makeup Takeover La La Kind Cafe, Where Kind, Clean Makeup Meets Kind, Clean Coffee, Real LA Style Meets Food, Not Oxymoron.

 By Laura Medina

A shallow, superficial East Coaster, who believes all of LA is Hollywood and mistakes West Hollywood for Hollywood, said fashion meets food, is an oxymoron in LA, is too shallow and superficial to scratch the surface then makes all the prejudiced mistakes that gets her booted out of the Golden State of California.

                                                     https://www.familystylefest.com/

There's a strong link between stylish and comfortable urban and street wear and Gen-X, Millennial, and Zoomer chefs, mostly male.

Urban wear, The Hundreds proved that by displaying, the founder Ben Hundreds' love of both street wear and street food by throwing his Family Style Festival.

Just like it says, it's family friendly for Millennial and Zoomer young families and their toddler kids.

Proving they're Millennials.and Gen-Xers, a stsall dedicated to fifty years of hip hop sold both grilled meat balls and stuffed Italian rice balls.

If people weren't lining up for designer, rare limited edition street wear, they finished off the day munching on gourmet street food after shopping for fashion.

Ben Hundreds' Family Style Festival proves that fashion meets food in not an oxymoron in real Los Angeles.

His festival proves that Angelenos aren't bleached anorexic stereotypes.

During the same weekend and the same day as Ben Hundreds' Food Meets Fashion, Family Style Festival, Jerrod Blandino's latest makeup brand, clean makeup Polite Society, took over La La Kind Cafe in Santa Monica.

Both the makeup brand and the cafe practice and preach kindness.

Can't think of a better collaboration than a kind makeup brand hooking up with a kind cafe since they both practice inclusivity and diversity while preaching health.

Actually, it's kind of a dream, where you can shop for both your makeup and your drink and snack.

It was a wonderland of a pop-up.

Believe it or not, it took him four years to bring it to market, so it didn't happen in the last minute during the Actors' Strike.

He put a lot of thought into it.

Beach Life Ranch, Stagecoach on the Beach.

By Laura Medina

Brad Paisley, Chris Isaak, and Brett Landin all quoted having the fresh ocean breeze sure feels good. Feeling that good, brings out the best.

Chris Isaak mentioned, he’s been to a lot of outdoor concert festivals; and this one has the best weather, right on the beach, on a sunny day with the ocean breeze. A good day for a concert festival.

Hence, “Beach Life” but this time, it’s Beach Life Ranch, as it’s Country-Western, Southern Rock or Country Rock and Pop, dashed with Classic Rock from the Doobie Brothers.

That’s what differentiates Beach Life and Beach Life Ranch Festivals from numerous music festivals. Other than the beach location and climate, Beach Life tosses in some Classic Rock to appeal to the local Baby Boomer residents while introducing them while appealing to music festival Gen-Xers, Millennials, and Zoomers, to current and rising hot talents. A rainbow of rock as pop on the beach.

Beach Life Ranch also shines a new light on country stars. Audience loved Brad Paisley’s Nashville humor mocking Hollywood celebrity culture. Yet at the same time, Brad surprised them when he rocked Prince’s “Purple Rain.”  It’s Country busting stereotypes as they accept others, flaws, imperfections and just plain living.

Shooter Jennings' set was actually him showcasing his clients that he produced.

Who would have known he produced White Buffalo. White Buffalo’s lead singer cover Bob Seger’s “Against the Wind.”

The Doobie Brothers was like classic Coke. Their set was full of classic rock hits that set the mold. They never failed. This is why they celebrated their 50th anniversary at Beach Life Ramch Festival.

Keep your eyes and ears out for rising country-pop singer, Brett Landin.

There’s no need to ask Brett, who’s her favorite and who’s her influence. She said, right here at Beach Life Ranch Festival, she’s so excited that she’ll get to see her idols, before and after her set, Wyonna Judd, Midland, and Brad Paisley. Starry-eyed, she can’t believed, pinching herself, she’s performing on the same grounds as her idols.

Speaking of idols, Wyonna Judd lovingly told her fans that they are her family. She also told the audience that she's also a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.  She proved that she rocks when she ended her set, covering Led Zepplin’s “Rock and Roll.”

Beach Life Ranch knows where it is on the pecking order of music festival and uses that to its advantage in giving rising star a spotlight and a decent platform or stage to shine, as in British guitarist and "Elvis" star, Yola.

As a Brit, Yola covered Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" on her first album.  Elton heard her covering it then congratulated her then encouraged her.  Fellow Brits honoring and supporting each other.

Good musicianship is the heart of the Beach Life Ranch Festival, as such Friday night headliner, Jack Johnson joining The Avett Brothers performing before his headlining finale set.

Beach Life Ranch will rock you with surprises.

Jacques Torres Gave Away Lil' Secrets at Netflix Bites Class.

 By Laura Medina

Netflix's pop-up restaurant was never meant to be an usual restaurant.

Other than. it's a temporary restaurant, they replaced the normally popular brunch service with an additional pop-ups of cooking classes lead by their star chefs.

A week later after the final brunch weekend, Chef Curtis Stone showed up, leading his cooking class then pastry chef Nadiya Hussain appeared a week later, teaching an audience some of her pastry dishes.

During her week, she stayed on to autograph copies of her cookbook, "Nadiya Bakes: Over 100 Must-Try Recipes for Breads, Cakes, Biscuits, Pies, and More: A Baking Book" that the restaurant eventually gift to diners, as surprise souvenirs to delighted guests in the following week.

Of course, her guest appearance lasted only for a week.

So, who's the final guest celebrity chef for the weekend, before Netflix Bites shuts down in two weeks?

Can't forget "Mr. Chocolate," French pastry chef, Jacques Torres, he was the final guest chef class for the third and last experience.

Humble and humorous, Jacques lets out all the little secrets or techniques, that makes French cooking and cuisine the standard as it is expectational.

For his first pastry, he taught and fried "french doughnut," it's balls of brioche dough fried in oil.
Here's his first little secret technique.  Always have a bowl of sugar ready at hand.  As soon as he plucked out fried brioche dough out of the boiling hot pot of fry oil, he quickly dumped the steaming hot fried dough into that bowl of sugar then started tossing it, coating in sugar.  Taking advantage of the heat streaming from the fried dough, the heat from the dough instantly melts the sugar in to an instant sugar glaze.

No additional whisking of milk and confectioner sugar into a dipping glaze.

Jacques simply used science and chemistry that was taught and handed down in generations for this classic fried bread that he piped in classic pastry cream.

How do French-trained chefs whip up creamy pastry cream without scrambling it into scrambled eggs?

After he's down separating the yolks away their egg whites, Jacque simply whisk the yolks into a liquid, making it easier for him to pour a little bit of the warm vanilla milk into the liquefied yolks to temper it.
Tempering the yolks, whisking then blend the warmth into the yolks, stops the yolks from being scrambled and making it easier to blend into the greater vanilla milk to make the whole thing in to pastry cream.

This is how Jacques makes filled fried brioche doughnut.

For his second pastry, fried phyllo strips Napoleon, layered with pastry cream, Jacques added another trick.

He taught the raptured audience in how to make sugar dome, to glided the cage over any dessert.

He jokingly taught the audience, if the chef makes a mistake filled it in with more icing, more frosting, and more glaze to cover up the mistakes.

Him making something so fancy, proves that the technique is simply as are ingredients, water and sugar.

But, it's the little things that make it or break it.

Way before you make the sugar dome, spray butter to coat the inside of a metal bowl or pot, so the caramel sugar won't stick.

Keep your eyes out to the sugar caramelizing, that's when you pull out strings of molten caramelize sugar out of the pot.

Jacque spun a web of caramelized sugar threads inside the buttered pot, creating that spun sugar dome, that he simply pop out over the phyllo Napoleon.

Again, the crowd cheers when they got the chance to enjoy Jacque's Phyllo Napoleon.

So sorry, that Netflix Bites cooking demos and the restaurant will disappear soon.
