Boy Candies in the Pool! Old Navy Oasis Celebrates Coachella 2014

By Laura Medina

 Spring Break has Commenced!

Pulling off the dusty desert stretch of the 10-East Freeway into the cow-town Indio, California,  one wanders into Old Navy's Oasis, tucked behind Shadow Hills RV Resort where regular Coachella attendees literally camp their tents or park their RVs.  In fact, a lot of the campers were wondering what's going on, tucked behind the fence.  It's Old Navy celebrating Coachella in its own way, the Old Navy Oasis.

Celebutane-model-DJ, Hannah Bronfman of the Seagram Company family, started the afternoon DJ set to be followed by Brendan Fallis (Hannah's boyfriend), Daisy Lowe (fellow celebutane) and Jesse Rose.

The lucky attendees warming up to the DJs.  Old Navy was gracious to give away one item per a tweet, Instagram, or/and a Facebook posting.  It's their way of kitting out a guest for the real festivities, the Coachella Festival and concert itself.  It's Desert Haute of pull-up strapless linen maxi-sundresses/cover-ups for the pool/concert, jean jackets for the cold nights, and straw fedoras to shield folks from the burning UV rays.

Folks were fueled by endless rounds of Pink's Hot Dogs.  Sure, it wasn't the healthiest thing in the world but they had turkey and vegan wieners, as well as all-beef classic hot dogs and all sort of toppings.  The thirsty revelers were more interested in guzzling Izze Sparkling Fruit Juices and ice-cold beer in the desert. Some sip margaritas.

Pina Colada SnoCone, left. The SnoCone Teepee, middle. Raspberry + Coconut SnoCone.

As the afternoon progressed with the sun beating down upon them,  guests were more interested in trying the multi-flavored snow cones inside a cool tee pee.

Remember, it's the desert.  It's hot and dry.  People cared more about staying hydrated and cool then passing out from heat exhaustion.

Assembly Hair Salon, from Robertson Blvd., kindly kept both guys and girls cooled by braiding their tresses to release heat.

The female life guard, that Old Navy hired, was no Pamela Anderson but she did saved someone in the pool.  More likely, one of these guys.

It happened during the first set of concerts.  Yes, Old Navy Oasis threw their own "mini-Coachella" concert.  Lily Kershaw performed first and was really impressed that the Old Navy Life Guard saved someone in the pool during her set.

Old Navy Oasis "mini-Coachella" concert was saved as the best for last, towards the the end of the "picnic in the desert," around 4pm.

After Lily Kershaw,  Young the Giant finished off the picnic with a cool acoustic set that a lot of these first-time Coachella attendees liked.  For them, Old Navy Oasis was their way of dipping their toes in the Coachella Festival pool.

If you were lucky as this scribe and the fellow first-time Coachella/Old Navy Oasis guests, you all realized last-minute "Coachella camping" is a survival skill, especially in a year-around tiny cowboy & rancher town that is Indio.

Even if you're camping out on somebody's couch, livingroom floor, or making do with the RV park's generous but only shower, you need a bath survival kit that you can dump into your tote or/and sack in a jiffy.

Paul Mitchell's Pet Products do come in handy.  Surprisingly, they're pretty luxurious as they are convenient, especially during an impromptu sandstorm.

If you're conserving water for drinking, Paul Mitchell's Waterless Foam Shampoo makes for a quick hand-wash in-between.  You can even stroke through your dusty tresses to freshen them up in-between camping, party, and concert.

Paul Mitchell's  Leave-In Oatmeal Conditioning Spray is great for a moisturizing but light mist to cool and calm burning skin and fried hair.

Obviously, the wipes come in handy.

Actually, the hottest commodity wasn't booze or drugs (to tell you all the truth, the festival-goers were pretty darn decent. Ah, the blessings of Gen-Yers).  It was sunscreen.  People were willing to pay $15 to $25 a pop for a bottle of run-of-the-mill sunscreen, next to the bottled water.

Tiffany Masterson, the founder of  the Virgin Marula oil-based skincare line, Drunken Elephant, uses this as her daily makeup foundation instead of the ordinary makeup foundation, much less the touted BB and CC Creams of late.  Since it's good enough as her "everyday makeup" then this scribe risked her complexion in testing out Drunk Elephant's Umbra Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30, instead of this scribe's usual CC Cream.  It's a good thing that this scribe is a skincare fanatic, who smeared the lips, the eyes, and every inch of face, decolletage, and limbs with this slightly pink but transparent and light sunscreen.  Because after day and night partying out in the desert with top-notch daytime soirees and night-time concerts, this scribe was blessed with the idealized golden tan that most folks would fry themselves for, after scrubbing the sand and the sunscreen out of the pores the day after.

Perhaps, it's the Raspberry Seed Oil, nature's most powerful sunscreen with the Astaxanthin, a powerful carotenoid protecting the DNA and the Sunflower Shoot Extract preventing aging and reviving cell energy, backing up the Marula Oil for intense moisturizing and healing, for the soft, golden complexion most would kill-and sun damaged for.  This scribe took this as an unexpected gift from packing light and using Umbra™ Sheer Physical Defense SPF 30 as head-to-toe sun protection.

If South-By-Southwest ignited the mega-musical festival season then Coachella set the pace for ultra-casual but healthy outdoor festivals and concerts.

Coachella is the Spring Break that this scribe had never had until now!
