Debonair & Dashing for The Grammys, thanks to Malan Breton

By Laura Medina

While making his splash during LA Fashion/Style Week last Fall for his Spring 2014 Collection, Malan Breton was really excited about deepening his foray into Hollywood, having dress other actresses for the red carpet before.  It was that experience, sort of dipping his toes in the world, that gave him the incentive to formally debut his brand and his Spring 2014 Collection at LA Fashion/Style Week last Fall.

Inspired by Wong Kar-Wai's "In the Mood for Love," Malan just simply named his Spring 2014 Collection after the smoldering, sensual movie.  For an extra jolt, he even tossed in a little bit of Mick Jagger in there, too, while makes his menswear Spring 2014 Collection so fitting for this 2014 Grammy Awards, arriving fast this Sunday.

The blazers and coats were cut and sewn very slim.  The fabrics

The mood he was going for, in his men's collection, is very young rock n' roll.  Malan's sense of timing couldn't come at a better time than the Grammys when the young dandies of rock n' roll want to suit up and dress up.

Since rock n' roll has a tradition of the "strutting male peacock," Malan's taffeta fabric with rakish Rocco embroidery is a sly elegant take on the Rock n' Roll Bad Boy.  He's better-traveled and better-cultured, the Rocco Raconteur.

Whereas the Golden Globes is all about being now and trendy and the Oscars is the most traditional, a.k.a. conservative, the Grammy red carpet is all about going-all-out.  It's okay to go-all-out outlandishly ornate.  The Grammy red carpet is where everybody expects fashion to be the opening entertainment.  Remember, whatever is outrageous will be watered-down then trickled and filtered into whatever is the trendiest for tweens and teens at the local mall.  The Grammy red carpet is a fine place to discover trends.

A simple juxtaposing of pairing the ornate (nothing tacky about ornate when done well, such as Malan Breton) with the reliable classics in matching weave and fabric is what ties a dapper suit all together without making the man into a joke or a "style caricature" a.k.a. a "fashion victim."

It'll be nice to see Malan Breton and rock/pop's hottest singer dance together on music's most prestigious red carpet.

It's okay to have fun on the Grammys.
