Pre-Grammy Hot Fashion & Pre-Grammy Beauty Prep

By Laura Medina

Once the Inauguration is finished by midnight tonight, we are all going to move onto...the Grammys!

Here is a guide in how to dress for the Grammys, how get ready and psyched up for the Grammys, and how to rock the Grammys.

Yes...the Grammys are aimed towards a more youthful demographics and the young-at-heart demos.  Whatever is hot among the tweens, teens, and the Twenty-somethings or those who think like that, the Grammys is their party.

The first-go-to stop is Aries Milan's "Couquette" on 1230 Montana Avenue, Suite 103
Santa Monica, CA 90403.  The movie and tv folks who are lucky to be invited and the musicians who must and have to attend,...they all hit this hot shop for the hot but haute, hip casual tops and tanks in cool mixed media textures in leather.  Haute and hip enough for the Grammys but casual enough that they can worn long after the parties, well into Spring and Summer.

Aries Milan first strike it hot back in Houston then dipped her toes in the Hollywood scene, getting a feel what Los Angelenos want while accompanying her screenwriter husband on business.  When the timing was right, she launched her second branch of Couquette in Santa Monica this past holiday season.., and boy, does she have a hot sense of fashion.  Cute botton-down blouses in spangly sequins and leather, lots of leather.

She burst leather out of the outerwear segment and displayed it as everyday casual wear with an edge, a perfect fit for the Grammys, mixing the high in luxury fabric with the low in causal construction, like the white leather halter top with black tie back or the skin-toned tank top with black leather posing as faux-branding.  This is pretty much Grammy style: rocking your hippest jeans with the coolest, most unconventional top.

When asked if making the big leap from Houston, Texas to Santa Monica, California was a shock to the cultural system, her response was a simple, "no."

Aries said her Houston and LA clients have similar tastes but different buying patterns.  Right now, it's slow in Houston but things are heating up here in LA.  Whatever her LA customers wear, her Houston clients are watching.

What really pleasantly surprised her is whenever a yoga sweat-suit clad and yoga mat-clutching yogi steps in looking for the most rocking of chiffon-meets-leather or chiffon-meets-sequin.  Aries realized sweating at yoga during the night gets her LA customers ready for the night-out.

Since Aries has her finger on the pulse for what's hot, here's her tips:

1. Be bold – don’t be afraid to add your own touch or spin on a current trend.

2. Be an instant trendsetter and transform even the simplest jeans and tee with just one staple piece like an animal print jacket, funky boots, a big, bold necklace or an eclectic belt or another bold accessory pieces.

3. “I don’t know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot,” stated the most iconic sex kitten, Marilyn Monroe. Stilettos – wear them with ANY and EVERY outfit. As women they extenuate our legs and really give us that extra “umph,” both in height, style and most importantly they’re an instant confidence booster!

4. Peplum not pleats. Pleats make you appear larger and make your butt and legs look like a gigantic bubble (which is never attractive).

5. Leather – pants, dresses or minis are always a fashion staple.

6. White after Labor Day? Definitely! Even though your grandmother always told you otherwise, it is fashionably acceptable to stroll through the seasons with your white staple pieces, just don’t go overboard.

7. Always accessorize with nail polish. Bold colors are always fun and trendy. Switching it up a bit by painting your ring fingers with a different color or sparkle always adds a flair!

8. A hot pink bag, pants or mini can always revamp a “normal” outfit into an immediate style success.

9. Strategically show skin to emulate a classy, sexy appeal but know what to bare and what to keep for the imagination.

10. Beaded embellishments, studs or gem accents on jackets, necklines and shoes are always donned in establishing a chic appeal.

11. Throw on a silk scarf – it’s one of the simplest things you can do and it gives you an instant classic and polished look.

12. Pearls glam up any ensemble and embodies a classically feminine Audrey Hepburn look.

13. Oversized sunglasses are a fashionista staple that adds instant mystique and mod glam. And let’s face it, we all just love the feel of them too!

14. Be brave! Mix and match bold colors/neon’s into your personal style and most importantly own it!

15. Most importantly always remember, everyday is a fashion show and the world is your runway!
