Being Resourceful & Never Be Wasteful, From Whiskey to Hand Cleansers.

By Laura Medina

An emergency always highlight what is needed.  People and families from distillery backgrounds come from a world of thrift, resourcefulness, and self-sufficiency.  This is never means selfishness.  During tough times, this mentality comes together for those who need help.

A free hand sanitizer drive-through was opened yesterday in Eastern Iowa.
Eco Lips founder and Cedar Rapids resident Steve Shriver teamed up with Dr. Ryan Sundermann and Cedar Ridge Distillery, to distribute free hand sanitizer to people in Eastern Iowa.

A week ago it was a federal offense for a distillery to use their alcohol for this purpose.

5 days ago Steve Shriver  realized there was a shortage of hand sanitizer.  He called the local distillery and they made 1000 bottles.
A hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol is an alternative if soap weren't available.
Steve Shriver called the local distillery and they made 1000 bottles.

A free hand sanitizer drive through was opened yesterday in Eastern Iowa.  Using a simple recipe, they made 1000, 4 ounce bottles to distribute via drive-thru pickup at New Bo City Market.  Yesterday they handed them out free to the public in a drive through to minimize human congestion and contact.
Shriver "Our governor and senators have tweeted to show their support of our efforts in these unprecedented times." I'm getting calls from hospitals, daycares, shelters, police departments, health care facilities, ambulance operators who are in need of sanitizer.  This is real." They will continue to provide sanitizer for as long as there is a shortage.  Because the group is planning to make more, Shriver said he would prefer to give out the sanitizer to people who are completely out. Updates on production and future locations can be found on Facebook.
Steve Shriver is owner of Brewhemia, Soko Outfitters and Eco Lips, as well as involved with the Olympic, an event venue that was supposed to open this month. Shriver’s largest business is Eco Lips, which makes organic and free trade lip balm and other personal care products. Even though he said the business hasn’t experienced any downturn in sales yet, he brought up Amazon’s announcement to sellers and vendors that the company will suspend shipments of nonessential products to its warehouses.
