The Angel Sports Holiday party honoring disabled athletes, also premiere the US Sled Hockey team's journey during 2018 Winter Olympics.
Able-bodied or not, athletes are an hungry bunch.
The event kicks off with the theatrical premiere of Empty Net, a documentary showcasing the 2018 Gold Medal Winning US Paralympic Sled Hockey Team. Following the premiere, there will be a cocktail reception celebrating the past year in adaptive sports with a performance by special musical guest Victoria Canal, who was born with one arm and whose debut EP garnered millions of plays across multiple streaming platforms with a playful and passionate spirit and soulful vocals (https://www.victoriacanal.com/artists).
Mike Shea, a two-time Paralympian snowboarder and Angel City Athlete and Ambassador, will be the host for the evening and will be joined by other Paralympians including Taylor Lipsett (2x Gold Medalist in Sled Hockey), Mallory Weggeman (2x Paralympian, Gold Medalist in swimming) and adaptive athletes from the community. Funds raised will help provide adaptive sports clinics, competition, and equipment to athletes in Southern California with physical disabilities.
"Our holiday celebration will honor the achievements of these amazing athletes and help us raise additional funds to grow adaptive sports programming across the region," said Clayton Frech, founder of Angel City Sports. "We are thrilled to celebrate the success of 2018 and we look forward to lifting more lives through sport in 2019."
One of the party guests that best exemplified that is Isaiah Pead, former Rams and Dolphin Running Back.
When he lost his leg in a car crash, it forced him to switch to other sports and being a Paralympian.
He just wants to be a good role model for his son, overcoming adversities, switching and pivoting while keep on keeping on.
