Surging into that Seventies Feeling, Pat Cleveland for MAC's Antonio Lopez & RZA for BedrockLA

By Laura Medina

One of the 3 Antonio Lopez Muses, Pat Cleveland honoring her Svengali, Antonio Lopez.

Right after interviewing Rachel Roy about continuing her Seventies vixen muse, "Foxy Lady" motif then discussing the movie, "Rush," rushing that lush jet-setter theme into the second year in a row, this scribe notice the Seventies and its relaxed glamour is hot right now, especially for these kids who are experiencing this the first-time.

Asking why there's such a strong Seventies theme occurring right now, M·A·C Cosmetics Director of Makeup Artistry Gregory Arlt said because of the current government shutdown and the resulting economic anxiety and the Mid-East turmoil, people are looking for escapism again, just to be happy and comforting to ride over the wave.

No different from Seventies' turmoil, oil crisis and Richard Nixon denying, people now are searching for something nice to look at and something fun to hear and wear, this is why Seventies' lush and easy love of glam is so desirable right.

M·A·C Cosmetics, as always, has its finger on the pulse.  Using "Antonio Lopez: Fashion, Art, Sex, and Disco" by Roger Padilha and Mauricio Padilha, (the men behind MAO PR), as inspiration for its latest and hottest limited edition, the legendary fashion illustrator's (one of the last great fashion illustrators) vibrant energy, brazen attitude, and love of life attitude and mentality expressed by his discoveries, "Antonio's Girls:" Marisa, Jerry, and Pat.  This scribe calls them "Muses" because they are.

Antonio Lopez's discovery and muse, Pat Cleveland said why they were jet-setters...it was the only way to shop.

According to Pat, way way back before the internet and M·A·C Cosmetics were born, you literally had to hop on a plane to buy that one specific lipstick that matches your complexion in Toyko then jet over to Brazil bacause it was the only place that makes and sells foundation that exactly matches our shade then back to Paris for eyeshadow that complements your eyes.

Whatever was missing, the legendary illustrator and svengali, Antonio Lopez would improvise with a marker or a felt-tip pen to fill out the brows or a real painting brush to sculpture and flush out the cheeks.

Fast-forward to today, thanks to M·A·C Cosmetics, you can go to any counter or boutique full of a rainbow of color, tint, and shade and pick whatever you want to choose.

M·A·C Cosmetics' newest & latest Fall 2013 Limited Edition, the Antonio Lopez Collection.

Asking Pat what would Antonio Lopez think of M·A·C Cosmetics releasing a makeup collection based on his color palette, illustrations, and drawing/makeup technique,...if he would be alive today, he would had die and gone to heaven then he would rise back up, grab the makeup palette then start drawing your brows and lips then start painting your face, your eyes, and your lips.

The three looks, a.k.a. "3 Muses:" Marisa Berenson,  Jerry Hall, and Pat Cleveland, all Antonio Lopez discoveries, as Pat would say, "Children of the Rainbow," a.k.a. looks for everyone.

 Antonio Lopez's 3 Muses a.k.a. "Antonio's Girls: Pat, Marisa, & Jerry respresenting '70's Ethos.

Each look or "Muse" represent the lifestyle, attitude and mentality of the Seventies Jet-Set, the ethos.

"Marisa" is that golden European who acquire that golden, bronze tan from generations of sun-bathing on Spain's and Greece's golden shores.
M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 6 Eyes/Bronze Palette to liven up the eyelids with pink, coral, gold, taupe then warming up a "Marisa" iridescent cat-like irises with warm brown.
M·A·C Antonio Lopez: Face/Coral Kit glows a beachy tan complexion.

What's really cool and Seventies legend Pat was really impressed, the top level of blush and highlighter slides out to reveal a big block of corresponding bronzer/contour on the bottom.  They didn't have that technology back then.

M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 3 Lips/Nude flesh the lips, tying the warm, tan look together.

"Jerry" is the All-American Girl/Texas Rose who just got educated and refined in '70's Paris Chic then wounded up dancing with Mick Jagger at Studio 54, it's the traditional All-American ramped up in bold and bright disco rainbow of...

M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 6 Eyes/Teal to bring out those baby blues.

M·A·C Antonio Lopez: Face/Pink for the fierce cheekbone sculpturing swoop.

M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 3 Lips/Red in matte and satin texture of bold red in orange, bluish-tone, and fierce deep scarlet.

"Pat" is the new generation represented by Puerto-Rican American, Antonio Lopez and African-American Pat, the new All-American Girl, that revolution that started in the Sixties then changed the world in the Seventies.  This scribe was a baby and a toddler in the actual Sixties, looking up to these Muses in the magazine, wishing this kid was one of them.  Oh well, at least this scribe got to interview and shoot one of them, Pat Cleveland, watch the runway show at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb3glij_fBQ.

To enhance "Pat" cafe au lait creaminess...

M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 6 Eyes/Violet to bring out those baby browns, lilac, pinks, slate blue, and violet and of course, black.

M·A·C Antonio Lopez: Face/Pink compliments with M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 6 Eyes/Violet.
M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 3 Lips/Fuchsia.  Now, Fuchsia is a special bright, purplish-red that expresses the boldness, the fierceness, and the sensuality that uniquely expressing the desires and "joie de vivre" (that uniquely French concept of pleasure or living well) that was occurring in the Seventies, ok...hot love on the disco dancefloor to the dashing off to the best places on Earth just by jumping on a jet, a.k.a "The Jet-Setters" what we call the "Internationals" today, global exchange of concepts and ideas and lifestyles.  Pat Cleveland, the woman herself, is wistful about those days and is grateful to be one of those influences.
M·A·C Antonio Lopez: 3 Lips/Fuchsia kit has neon pink (precursor to New Wave hot pink), matte blue-pink, and amplified violet purple, so hot, so "Studio 54."
The 3 Muses was elegantly draped in easy-to-slide in & out and travel-ready Halston jersey-knit dresses.
Continuing on with the Seventies Ethos, RZA of the Wang-Tu Clan rocked in a black suede tunic shirt with a lace-up collar and marijuana plant bejazzled in rhinestone on the black.  Lush, soft suede tunic shirt with a Mary Jane emblazed in crystal on the back, if this doesn't say "'70's" luxe then this scribe doesn't know what is.
"Rush"ing into the Seventies Heat.
