Kiehl's has a New Cause, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance.

By Laura Medina

Kiehl's has step up and raised awareness and funds for environmentalism and AIDS.  Now, they have taken on a new cause, Ovarian Cancer with OCRFA President & CEO Audra Moran, again to educate the public and find a cure.

Kiehl's knights in shining armor are their motorcycle gang, the LifeRiders.  The core knights/members are: Chris Salgardo, Kiehl’s USA President, Gilles Marini, Grant Reynolds, TV host, and Scott Patterson, Actor.

This was the briefest charity tour that the Kiehl's LifeRiders ever had:  Kiehl’s Sherman Oaks, Westfield Fashion Square, 14006 Riverside Dr., Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, 11:00AM-12:00PM
• Kiehl’s Santa Anita, Westfield Santa Anita, 400 Baldwin Ave., Arcadia, CA 91007, 2:00PM-3:00PM
• Kiehl’s Victoria Gardens, ...Victoria Gardens, 12505 N Main St. #200, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739, 4:30PM-5:30PM

Three stops in one day, all in the Inland Empire, on a Wednesday, September 21st.

The motorcycle tour ended on Thursday, September 22nd at Kiehl's Santa Monica store on Montana Avenue boutique.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Collection was set aside for proceeds for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance.

Life long LifeRider, Gilles Marini showed his heart and soul for riding for worthy causes, such as the environment and cancers.

Alyssa Milano, from "Who's the Boss," shows her support for Ovarian Cancer.

America's Ninja Warrior, Jessie Graff demonstrates her prowess.

Then, she does pull-ups at the store entrance.

It ain't a Kiehl's party until they present a check for their favorite causes, a $25,000 check donated to the research and education of Ovarian Cancer to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance.

OCRFA President & CEO Audra Moran wasn't afraid to tell the guests that you can't discover ovarian cancer through the traditional pap smear.  There needs to be more money for more research to properly discover and detect ovarian cancer quicker, easier, and faster then, there's the cure.

With Nelly's help and Shantel Jackson's help, Face Forward Help Domestic Abuse Victims Move Forward.

By Laura Medina

In a town known for it's superficiality and shallowness and plastic surgery, the charity Face Forward comes to the rescue for victims of domestic abuse violence.

http://www.faceforwardla.org/

It's harsh and it's ugly that men can do that to their girlfriends, wives, and mothers to their children.  Unfortunately, men do.

These black-tie gala, underneath all that glossy glamour, is a fundraiser to keep this volunteer team of reconstructive surgeons saving victims' lives, self-esteem, and confidence to enter the regular world, to escape disfiguring enslavement.

With these reconstructive doctors' help and dedication, just making these domestic abuse victims "appear normal" is these victims' first step to freedom and dignity as fully-functional human beings.

What does Nelly and Shantel Jackson have to do with this?

If you follow Ms. Shantel Jackson's career and Nelly's or just a plain ole fan, you all know the sordid story of Shantel's domestic abuse and imprisonment by a vicious, abusive, misogynistic celebrity who showered her with gifts but "owned" her by withholding her driver's license and beating her up in return.  He "put her in her place" by posting intimate photos of their relationship online.

Sorry ladies but those abusers aren't gentlemen.

By escaping her abuser, Shantel Jackson met her current boyfriend, Nelly.

After accepting her award from Face Forward, Nelly showed his support by throwing a mini-concert that got everybody grooving...

Before Nelly's midnight performance and during the live auction, people just have to have dinner, a three-course Haute Cuban cuisine, courtesy of Chef Neal Fraser.

He did the cooking because the charity gala was held at his restaurant, Redbird at Vibiana.

Harvesting late season produce, Watermelon Salad dusted by Feta cheese crumbs.

Light and filling Cod spiced with Tomato Salsa on a bed of plantain.

Turones and Chocolate....

All those kind-hearted fashionistas and socialites were glad that Nelly got them moving to burn off the calories.

But for the rest of the year, it's still a good idea to donate to Face Forward to help domestic abuse victims get back on their feet, off the floor...after being beaten up.

Affordable & Approachable Makeup & Hair from the Emmys

By Laura Medina

Awards shows has always been about glamour for the masses, since the studios and networks are appealing to the fan base.

This recent Emmy Awards are no exception.

Many a lady actresses were wearing healthy, attainable makeup brands that can be shopped at Target or at Whole Foods.

Keri Russell, above, wore Mineral Fusion to the Emmys. Whole Foods has the wider selection of Mineral Fusion, for a night out on the town.  Healthy, wholesome can be glamourous.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Tamah Krinsky worked with actress Amanda Peet for tonight’s Emmy Awards. Below is how to get the look from Tamah.

Inspiration: Fresh skin with a pop of color to complement Amanda's stunning black Altuzarra gown with canary yellow and blush colored accents.

Face: With a soft brush, I applied a mix of Avon Ideal Flawless Liquid Foundation in Nude and Honey Beige to keep her skin looking fresh. Then, I swiped Avon Ideal Luminous Blush in Antique Rose onto the apples of her cheeks and blended it with Avon Ideal Luminous Blush in Candlelight onto her cheekbones.

Eyes: To create a really soft, neutral eye, I used a mixture of #3 from the Avon True Color Eye Shadow Quad in Naked Truth and #2 from the Avon True Color Eye Shadow Quad in Stone Taupe on her lids. I applied each tone one at a time, blending between each application until it almost disappeared into the skin. Next, I applied Avon True Color Eye Shadow in Vanilla to soften the inner corners and blend out the crease, continuing to keep everything very soft. To finish the eyes, I added a few coats of NEW Avon True Color Wide Awake Mascara in Black on both the top and bottom lashes.

Lips: Her lips were the focal point. I applied Avon True Color Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Ravishing Rose as a base and then added Avon True Color Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Red Supreme to the center of her lips, pressing the color in with my fingers to intensify it. This created a perfectly dimensional raspberry tone to compliment her complexion and the color of the dress.

Taraji P. Henson's sold-out MAC Collection, https://www.maccosmetics.com/collections-mac-taraji?cm_mmc=Paid_Search-_-bing-_-Brand_Collection-_-%2Btaraji%20%2Bmac

Since her own name-sake MAC sold out in a nanosecond, that her own mother can't buy her daughter's MAC items, Taraji P. Henson has to make do with whatever the Emmy makeup artist has on hand.

Here is the list of the actual products used on Emmy Sunday on Taraji, for all you "Empire" fans...

Taraji P. Henson slayed on the Emmys red carpet last night. In a show-stopping sunshine yellow dress by Vera Wang, all eyes were on the fierce “Empire” actress.

Get all of the details of her incredibly gorgeous hair and makeup right here! Her super talented makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff breaks it down for us:

“Getting ready for the Emmys is actually a fun process,” shares Ashunta. “Taraji is very zen and relaxed its the glam team who’s not. We listen to great music and laugh but most importantly she makes sure we have fun.”

Skin
  • I prep her skin by using DERMAFLASH, which allows me to get the highest level of exfoliation plus remove unwanted peach fuzz so skin care products work ten times better.
  • I used Kate Somerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm to decrease puffiness and hydrate eyes. Then I used the brand’s DermalQuench Liquid Lift and Quench Oil Free Hydrating Face Serum. Both of these products work together to plump, hydrate and give skin that superior radiant glow.
  • I applied Dior Airflash CC Primer to create an even canvas for makeup application. I love that is also has a radiance booster.
  • Next, I used Perfect Blend by Ashunta Sheriff in Tan to create a natural, glowing, contoured and lifted canvas.
  • I set her makeup with Milani Prep + Set + Glow Transparent Face Powder using a MAC powder brush.

Eyes
  • For eyes I wanted a soft rose glow affect so I used Taraji's MAC Collection Highlight The Truth on the lid just tapping with my finger and using a MAC 266 angle brush on lower lash line for a soft smokey affect.
  • Then I added Taraji Glow, a coppery gold highlight in corner of the eyes and center of eyes so they popped.
  • I added Penultimate Eye Liner from Taraji's MAC collection to give a tight precise line on the top lash line and then added two coats on top and bottom lashes with Haute and Naughty Tooo Black Lash Mascara.

Finishing Touches
  • For cheeks I used Highlight The Truth from Taraji's MAC collection on cheekbones and then followed up with Taraji Glow for highlight.
  • I lined lips with MAC Cork Lip Liner then added Strip Me Down Matte Lipstick, a gorgeous nutty nude color. I added a soft pink gloss only in the center of the lips from Dior called Jersey Pink Addict Collection.
  • I finished the look with MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ and I added Caudalie Divine Oil on her body along with Kate Somerville Quench Oil for the ultimate body glow.

Avon Celebrity Makeup Artist Lauren Andersen worked with actress Abigail Spencer for tonight’s Emmy Awards. Below is how to get the look from Lauren.

Lauren's Inspiration: Playful, 1940s glamour.

Face: We wanted Abigail's skin to look fresh, soft and glowing. I dotted concealer under her eyes and to the inner corners to cover any slight imperfections. Next, I applied Avon Ideal Luminous Blush in Heavenly Pink to the apples of her cheeks. To add an all over glow, I dusted Avon Glow Bronzing Powder all over her skin, including along the hairline.

Eyes: I lined her eyes with Avon True Color Glimmersticks Waterproof Eye Liner in Brown Chocolate, smudging the liner into the outer corner of the lash line for a barely there hint of color. We wanted big, flirty lashes to compliment her rosey lip. I applied NEW Avon True Color Wide Awake Mascara in Black to really open her eyes. A structured brow completed and framed her eyes.  I applied Avon Perfect Eyebrow Kit in Deep Brown to fill in her brows and keep them perfectly groomed.

Lips: I wanted her lips to be the focus of her look, keeping the rest of her face clean and glowing. I applied Avon True Color Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Ravishing Rose to lips for a gorgeous pop of color.

For the hair do, she took inspiration from Katherine Hepburn,..

She channeled her inner Katharine Hepburn with an elegant yet modernized hair look that will never go out of style. Renowned celebrity stylist, Anh Co Tran (@anhcotran), worked his magic for Abigail’s look with Infusium 23 and PRO Beauty Tools for her beautiful, classic hairstyle.

Below you will find tips from Anh on how to achieve her look at home using Infusium 23 and PRO Beauty Tools.

“GET THE LOOK” FROM ANH CO TRAN:
I wanted to keep Abigail’s look beautiful, modern and Timeless!
First, I washed and conditioned her hair with the Infusium 23 Repair + Renew Shampoo and Conditioner.
Next, I dried her hair with the PRO Beauty Tools 1875W Ionic AC Motor; once her hair was 80% dry, I sprayed Infusium 23 Repair + Renew Leave-In Treatment all over to give her hair texture.
I then sprayed the Infusium 23 Repair +Renew Heat Tamer from mid shaft to ends to protect against the heat.
I smoothed her hair out with a round brush to get that beautiful shine from root to ends.
Since we went for a modernized 40's look, I used the PRO Beauty Tools 1” Curling Iron, starting at the nape using horizontal sections and working my way up to the mid crown. I alternated curling the sections from left to right, then right to left to emulate finger waves.
For the crown and sides I switched to the PRO Beauty Tools 1 ¼ Curling Iron for bigger curls, still using the same technique as before. Once I got around her face, I made sure to curl away in order to frame it and not hide it.
After, I broke up the curls using my hands and then secured the style with hair spray.  Lastly, I pulled one side back behind her ear, and kept the other free to complete the look!

Remember at the beginning, high-quality makeup made from wholesome ingredients, doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg?

Here's another list of wholesome, glam hair and makeup that made appearances on the red carpet...

Jewel-Toned Lips
Priyanka Chopra, Michelle Dockery, Abigail Spencer and Ellie Kemper were some of the celebs rocking a jewel-toned pout on the red carpet. Recreate this look by lining your lips with Palladio Beauty Precision Lip Liner ($6) to lock the color in place and top off with the Velvet Matte ($7) liquid lip color in a shade such as Damask, Panne, Angora or Plush for a velvety finish. Finish the look by coating your lashes with Lash Obsessed Mascara ($10).

Natural Face
Some of the stars opted for a neutral look this year. Tori Kelly, Taraji P. Henderson, Kerry Washington all looked stunning with a subtle contour and glowing complexion. To recreate this look at home, use Palladio Beauty Dual Wet & Dry Foundation  ($11) to create a flawless base with all-day coverage. Create a subtle contour along the forehead and hollows of the cheeks with the contour end of The Definer Contour + Highlight Crayon ($12) and then flip the crayon around to highlight the high points of your face such as the tops of the cheek bones. Add some color back to your complexion with the Matte Blush ($7) in a neutral peach shade such as Toasted Apricot. Top off the look with Dreamy Matte Lipcolor ($7) in Regal Cafe or Lady Rose for the perfect nude lip.

Statement Eyes
Celebrities such as Emily Ratajkowski, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams let their eyes do the talking with a twist on the classic smoky eye. To achieve this metallic eye look, swipe the Palladio Silk FX Eyeshadow Palette ($12) all over your lid- the liquid-to-powder formula allows for a bold, pigmented application. Apply Line Out Loud Intense Shimmer Liners ($12) over top the shadow to create an intense shimmery look.

Sleek Hair
Heidi Klum, Shiri Appleby, Julianne Hough, Jane Krakowski all styled sleek straight locks on this year’s red carpet. To get the look at home, first shampoo and condition your hair with Iles Formula Haute Performance Shampoo ($33) and Conditioner ($39). Heidi’s stylist and founder of Iles Formula, Wendy Iles, used the Iles Formula Haute Performance Finishing Serum ($44) to instantly protect and perfect the hair to a soft silky texture. Next, section off your hair and blow dry each section straight using the Keratin Complex Hydra Dry Dual Ion + Ceramic Professional Smoothing Dryer ($149). Really smooth and straighten each section with the Keratin Complex Stealth V Next-Generation Digital Smoothing + Straightening Iron ($179). Smooth any fly-aways and soften the hair with Glowtion Potion Styling Oil ($29).

If anyone deserves to live her best hair on the red carpet today, it’s Sarah Paulson. Nominated for The People v. O.J Simpson: American Crime Story, Paulson’s dedication to the role of prosecutor Marcia Clark is exemplified by the crispy perm she adopted. In real life, Clark was demonized during the trial for her allegedly dowdy appearance. Paulson could do her curly hair justice with a Veronica Lake–inspired wave (Violet recommends: Windle & Moodie Curl Enhancer for the occasion)—a nostalgic and elegant look oft repeated with great success on the red carpet. This would be best accented by a strongly pigmented red lip, another Lake signature that Paulson could easily own as well as her impending Emmy.

Washington is always impeccably dressed on screen and off—think of her character, Olivia Pope, and you’ll probably picture her stalking the corridors of power in a sharp white suit. Her red carpet look is somewhat less minimal, Washington being a fan of risk-taking conceptual gowns, often by Miu Miu and Prada, or sparkle—witness the silvery Marc Jacobs number at last year’s Emmys. As one would imagine, this is usually counterbalanced by barely there makeup. We’d love to see Washington reverse this trend and explore her love of color and texture on her eyes and lips rather than on her dress: Try Lipstick Queen’s Brat Pack Lipstick, perhaps offset by an Olivia Pope–esque power suit.

Lily Tomlin has been nominated for her much-beloved portrayal of Frankie Bergstein, one half of the divorcée duo she plays opposite Jane Fonda on their hit Netflix show. Frankie enjoys chanting, flowing robes, and New Age religion (much to the chagrin of the uptight, helmet-haired Grace). Offscreen, Tomlin favors elegant suits and simple makeup that brings her porcelain complexion to the fore on the red carpet. To that end, she could use Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow, finishing with Bobbi Brown’s Slate on the eyes. For a final touch, instead of Frankie’s favorite method of relaxation—wafting incense—she could set her look with a botanical spray for a sensory pick-me-up.
