Jason Momoa's Meili Vodka.

 By Laura Medina

Like any celebrity striking when the iron is hot and during the Actors' Strike, Jason Momoa did a supermarket tour promoting his vodka, Meili Vodka, https://www.meilivodka.com/

Believe it or not, it took him four years to bring it to market, so it didn't happen in the last minute during the Actors' Strike.

He put a lot of thought into it.

Beach Life Ranch, Stagecoach on the Beach.

By Laura Medina

Brad Paisley, Chris Isaak, and Brett Landin all quoted having the fresh ocean breeze sure feels good. Feeling that good, brings out the best.

Chris Isaak mentioned, he’s been to a lot of outdoor concert festivals; and this one has the best weather, right on the beach, on a sunny day with the ocean breeze. A good day for a concert festival.

Hence, “Beach Life” but this time, it’s Beach Life Ranch, as it’s Country-Western, Southern Rock or Country Rock and Pop, dashed with Classic Rock from the Doobie Brothers.

That’s what differentiates Beach Life and Beach Life Ranch Festivals from numerous music festivals. Other than the beach location and climate, Beach Life tosses in some Classic Rock to appeal to the local Baby Boomer residents while introducing them while appealing to music festival Gen-Xers, Millennials, and Zoomers, to current and rising hot talents. A rainbow of rock as pop on the beach.

Beach Life Ranch also shines a new light on country stars. Audience loved Brad Paisley’s Nashville humor mocking Hollywood celebrity culture. Yet at the same time, Brad surprised them when he rocked Prince’s “Purple Rain.”  It’s Country busting stereotypes as they accept others, flaws, imperfections and just plain living.

Shooter Jennings' set was actually him showcasing his clients that he produced.

Who would have known he produced White Buffalo. White Buffalo’s lead singer cover Bob Seger’s “Against the Wind.”

The Doobie Brothers was like classic Coke. Their set was full of classic rock hits that set the mold. They never failed. This is why they celebrated their 50th anniversary at Beach Life Ramch Festival.

Keep your eyes and ears out for rising country-pop singer, Brett Landin.

There’s no need to ask Brett, who’s her favorite and who’s her influence. She said, right here at Beach Life Ranch Festival, she’s so excited that she’ll get to see her idols, before and after her set, Wyonna Judd, Midland, and Brad Paisley. Starry-eyed, she can’t believed, pinching herself, she’s performing on the same grounds as her idols.

Speaking of idols, Wyonna Judd lovingly told her fans that they are her family. She also told the audience that she's also a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.  She proved that she rocks when she ended her set, covering Led Zepplin’s “Rock and Roll.”

Beach Life Ranch knows where it is on the pecking order of music festival and uses that to its advantage in giving rising star a spotlight and a decent platform or stage to shine, as in British guitarist and "Elvis" star, Yola.

As a Brit, Yola covered Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" on her first album.  Elton heard her covering it then congratulated her then encouraged her.  Fellow Brits honoring and supporting each other.

Good musicianship is the heart of the Beach Life Ranch Festival, as such Friday night headliner, Jack Johnson joining The Avett Brothers performing before his headlining finale set.

Beach Life Ranch will rock you with surprises.

Jacques Torres Gave Away Lil' Secrets at Netflix Bites Class.

 By Laura Medina

Netflix's pop-up restaurant was never meant to be an usual restaurant.

Other than. it's a temporary restaurant, they replaced the normally popular brunch service with an additional pop-ups of cooking classes lead by their star chefs.

A week later after the final brunch weekend, Chef Curtis Stone showed up, leading his cooking class then pastry chef Nadiya Hussain appeared a week later, teaching an audience some of her pastry dishes.

During her week, she stayed on to autograph copies of her cookbook, "Nadiya Bakes: Over 100 Must-Try Recipes for Breads, Cakes, Biscuits, Pies, and More: A Baking Book" that the restaurant eventually gift to diners, as surprise souvenirs to delighted guests in the following week.

Of course, her guest appearance lasted only for a week.

So, who's the final guest celebrity chef for the weekend, before Netflix Bites shuts down in two weeks?

Can't forget "Mr. Chocolate," French pastry chef, Jacques Torres, he was the final guest chef class for the third and last experience.

Humble and humorous, Jacques lets out all the little secrets or techniques, that makes French cooking and cuisine the standard as it is expectational.

For his first pastry, he taught and fried "french doughnut," it's balls of brioche dough fried in oil.
Here's his first little secret technique.  Always have a bowl of sugar ready at hand.  As soon as he plucked out fried brioche dough out of the boiling hot pot of fry oil, he quickly dumped the steaming hot fried dough into that bowl of sugar then started tossing it, coating in sugar.  Taking advantage of the heat streaming from the fried dough, the heat from the dough instantly melts the sugar in to an instant sugar glaze.

No additional whisking of milk and confectioner sugar into a dipping glaze.

Jacques simply used science and chemistry that was taught and handed down in generations for this classic fried bread that he piped in classic pastry cream.

How do French-trained chefs whip up creamy pastry cream without scrambling it into scrambled eggs?

After he's down separating the yolks away their egg whites, Jacque simply whisk the yolks into a liquid, making it easier for him to pour a little bit of the warm vanilla milk into the liquefied yolks to temper it.
Tempering the yolks, whisking then blend the warmth into the yolks, stops the yolks from being scrambled and making it easier to blend into the greater vanilla milk to make the whole thing in to pastry cream.

This is how Jacques makes filled fried brioche doughnut.

For his second pastry, fried phyllo strips Napoleon, layered with pastry cream, Jacques added another trick.

He taught the raptured audience in how to make sugar dome, to glided the cage over any dessert.

He jokingly taught the audience, if the chef makes a mistake filled it in with more icing, more frosting, and more glaze to cover up the mistakes.

Him making something so fancy, proves that the technique is simply as are ingredients, water and sugar.

But, it's the little things that make it or break it.

Way before you make the sugar dome, spray butter to coat the inside of a metal bowl or pot, so the caramel sugar won't stick.

Keep your eyes out to the sugar caramelizing, that's when you pull out strings of molten caramelize sugar out of the pot.

Jacque spun a web of caramelized sugar threads inside the buttered pot, creating that spun sugar dome, that he simply pop out over the phyllo Napoleon.

Again, the crowd cheers when they got the chance to enjoy Jacque's Phyllo Napoleon.

So sorry, that Netflix Bites cooking demos and the restaurant will disappear soon.

You can Sip a Rising Star's Gin, "Outlander" Sam Heughan's Sassenach Spirits' Gin Launch with Literally 1,000 Fans at Total Wine & Spirits.

 By Laura Medina

                                  https://thegincooperative.com/gin-maker/sassenach-spirits/

The best way to catch a rising star is during his spirits launch at a big box liquor store.

This is how "Outlander" star, Sam Heughan realized when 1,000 of his die-hard fans showed up on a Labor Day Sunday.

His most die-hard fans started lining up since last Friday morning.

His gin launch is a third in his line of his Sassenach Spirits.

Striking when the iron is hot, obviously starting with a whiskey from Scotland then breaking the mold with his tequila to educating the UK about it.  Now, he's back celebrating Scottish heritage with his new gin, Sassenach Spirits Gin.

Him launching his gin on Labor Day's Summer weekend is appropriate for cool martinis and refreshingly yummy and fruity Bramble cocktails.

According to California State Liquor Law, a celebrity appearance cannot last no longer than two hours.  100 guest fans equal one hour.  200 guest fans equals two hours.  It's very frustrating cutting off the remaining 800 guests never to meet and greet their idol and heartthrob, Sam.

However, there was still enough Sam autographed bottles of his gin to purchase per a fan, limited to one bottle per a person, save some for others.

The proof is in the pudding.  Based on 1,000 people lining up all weekend just to personally meet Sam for a mere two hours meet and greet, Sam Heughan is a rising star to catch.
