Cointreau's Godzilla Blood, It's Never Too Late for that Halloween Punch

By Laura Medina

Cointreau is throwing a "Cocktails Olympics", the Search for the Cointreau Ambassador of Libations, where the gold medal of cocktail is going to be served at next year's Cannes Film Festival.  This decides which cocktail quaff is the best in the world.

Like any other world championship or the Olympics, it all starts at the local or the regionals.

Los Angeles' winner is actually a recent LA transplant from Manhattan who's returning to the Big Apple for nationals.  His name is Alex Goode.  A LA mixologist at Mixology 101, a stylish cocktail lounge at Planet Dailies at the Farmer's Market.  This native Chicagoan was studying at New York University when he got the taste for the bartendological arts.

He won the LA regional at Sky Bar at the Mondrian Hotel this past Monday, September 10th with this winning recipe, Godzilla Blood.

You can easily cheer on Alex without you knowing it.

With a name like "Godzilla Blood," this is a perfect Halloween drink without the help of Martha Stewart.

With Cointreau and gin as your base, you can shake up Godzilla Blood individually or mix it in a batch for punch.

Here's the recipe...

Godzilla Blood

1.75 oz gin

.75 oz Cointreau

.75 oz lemon juice

.75 oz simple syrup

Muddle 1/2 pear and 6-7 shisho leaves with 6 dashes of lemon bitters. Shake with ice and strain over a martini glass with a shisho leaf and a pear fan garnish.

Now, cheer on the LA winner at the NYC finale on October 14 during La Maison Cointreau, an exclusive three-day event (October 15th-17th) that will offer bartenders, as well as consumers, an interactive and alluring journey through Cointreau’s heritage and influence on cocktail culture. From an inspiring, exclusive library of original cocktail books, to a one-of-kind cocktail kitchen where classic and contemporary Cointreau cocktails can be crafted, guests will be entertained and educated on the world of Cointreau.

The regional contestants with the most overall points, charm and artistic style will be selected to compete in New York City for the grand prize: the role of Cointreau Ambassador of Libations. At the finale event on October 14th, the regional contestants’ final libations will be judged by Cointreau Heritage Manager and sixth generation family member, Alfred Cointreau, Cointreau Corporate Mixologist Kyle Ford and additional VIP judges.

The winning cocktail and bartender will be awarded the honor of Chief of Libations and Bar at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2013, host of glamorous Cannes events for one week during the festival, judge of 2013 Cointreau competitions and a half-page profile in Los Angeles Confidential, Boston Common, Capitol File, Michigan Avenue, Gotham and Ocean Drive magazines displaying their Cointreau drink creation.   Now, go drink your Godzilla Blood to help Alex help win the competition.
