With Labor Day dawning upon us, in the humid South and the sunny Southern California, it will continue into Indian Summer into the early half of Fall. For the Mid-Atlantic to New England, crisp, cool Autumn approaching quick. It doesn't mean surf season is ending. For the die-hards, it means more room and more waves to surf, sans the wanna-be tourists.
Sure, Cynthia Rowley got her start catering to the ultra-preppy baby socialites, which is appropriate right for New York Fashion Week in September. That's the cliche stereotype that she built her foundation upon.
But, Cynthia isn't a cliche nor are her real life customer base. She's a surfer babe and so are her year-around Hampton customers. They're surfers as they are prime and proper preppies, real Hamptonites.
Dismissed by the lack of stylish yet feminine functional surf and swim gear and the over-abundance of sun-tanning sexual appeal on skimpy bikinis, predominating women's swimwear, Cynthia thought, why not design her own surf gear line, using her standard preppy graphics onto function wet suits that can stand up to any wave anywhere. This substance over style where form meets function is so very preppy. There's feminism among preppy females, style over sex appeal, wearing for oneself versus for men's fantastical gaze, that was never real in the first place.
This is the new expansion of Cynthia Rowley, preppy girls surf. Then, she realized there are preppy girls who surf in many a beaches.
The upscale preppy California girls, stretching from Newport Beach, Orange County thru Malibu then all the way up to Northern Central Coast, are clamoring for year-around fashionable wet suits that doesn't emulate the male all-black wet suits and way more useful than skimpy bikinis. As for surf chicks in warmer climates, Cynthia also design surfing bikinis call rashguards and high-waisted bikini bottoms that would make Esther Williams proud, that the synchronized swimming queen would had worn herself. Like Esther said, a woman needs more than two Dixie cups and a fishing line.
During her West Coast expansion launch, Cynthia Rowley was kind enough to throw a girls surfing camp for the next generation coming up...
Cynthia is wise enough to make her surf-leisure shops into a surfer girls' lifestyle boutique, proving there's more to being a preppy...
Cynthia also knows that being a preppy doesn't solely exist in the East Coast and being a surfer doesn't solely exist in the West Coast. Her Cali-York collection proves that...
Proving that real ladies do surf, here's to real swimwear for real women that can they can wear, surf to streetwear, year-around. Athleisure surfs beyond the pedistrian yoga to streetwear horizon.
